The UP T20 League has been hit by allegations of attempted match-fixing after Lucknow police registered an FIR on the complaint of the BCCI’s Anti-Corruption Unit (ACU). The case was revealed on August 31 when Kashi Rudra team manager Arjun Chauhan had received a suspicious message on Instagram from an unknown user called "vipss_nakrani". The sender presented himself as a big bookie and reportedly offered ₹1 crore to fix match results, promising a commission of ₹50 lakh. Trap Set After Suspicious Offer Responding quickly, the team manager reported the method to the ACU. Officials created a trap, maintaining the conversation over Instagram in order to gather more information. In the course of the exchange, the accused gave his number and requested that the members of the ACU move the discussion to WhatsApp. Also Read | Watch: Rinku Singh’s Fiery Celebration After First-Ball Wicket in UP T20 The suspected bookmaker, as per the FIR, guaranteed immediate pay in cash or dollars and demanded that the players obey him on the field. He also assured that his team and he would be present on the ground to make instant payment after the match. All calls and chat discussions were recorded on another device by the ACU for the purpose of keeping evidence intact, and the same has now been forwarded to the police. Police Investigation Underway Lucknow police authenticated that the case reflects a wider conspiracy of betting and possible match-fixing. They have booked charges under Sections 318, 319, 112, and 62 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, as well as Section 3 of the Public Gambling Act, 1867, and Section 66D of the Information Technology Act, 2000. Authorities are currently making attempts to identify the individual behind the Instagram name and to dismantle the network believed to be linked in the scam. The UP T20 League, which started off on August 17 in Lucknow, is set to run till September 6.
