Yash Dayal, the 27-year-old fast bowler, will not participate in the upcoming third edition of the UP T20 League starting August 17. According to a report by Dainik Jagran on August 9, Dayal, who played a pivotal role in Royal Challengers Bangalore’s (RCB) IPL 2025 title victory, has been barred from representing the Gorakhpur Lions franchise, which had contracted him for Rs 7 lakh. The decision follows the registration of a criminal case against Dayal at Sanganer Sadar Police Station in Jaipur. The Uttar Pradesh Cricket Association (UPCA) reportedly imposed the ban to distance the league from the controversy. A source from UPCA confirmed that the case against Dayal prompted the board to instruct the franchise to exclude him from the tournament roster. He was part of the GT squad that clinched the IPL championship in 2022 under Hardik Pandya’s captaincy, taking 11 wickets in nine games that season. Notably, in a dramatic 2023 match, Dayal conceded five sixes off the last five deliveries to Kolkata Knight Riders’ Rinku Singh. He later joined RCB in the 2024 IPL auction, where he took 15 wickets and was retained ahead of the 2025 mega auction. In the current IPL season, he has picked up 13 wickets in 15 matches. Legal proceedings intensified recently when the Rajasthan High Court refused to stay Dayal’s arrest in a case involving the alleged rape of a minor girl. The court stressed that no interim relief could be granted since the complaint concerns a minor. Justice Sudesh Bansal summoned the case diary and scheduled the next hearing for August 22. During the hearing, Dayal’s counsel, Kunal Jaiman, argued that the allegations formed part of a larger conspiracy to malign the cricketer’s reputation. The matter remains under judicial scrutiny as investigations continue.
