The former England spinner Moeen Ali was spotted in the English nets before the second Test against India at Birmingham on Monday. The local boy Ali was seen chatting with the head coach brendon McCallum and spin bowling coach Jeetan Patel, discussing the behavior of the Edgbaston pitch. Notably, the 36-year-old Ali had announced retirement from all the formats in 2024. Not only that, reports from PTI suggested that he has not been employed as any of the coaching faculty. It's more of a one-off coaching day for the lads. The Edgbaston pitch normally aids the batters against the spinners from Day 3 onwards. In that case, England might have given a call to Moeen for some guidance. However, Ali is still available for the T20 League post-retirement and was also participating in 2025 IPL. Before retiring, the all-rounder played a crucial role in the 2015 Ashes, contributing with both bat and ball, especially on a later-turned spinning pitch. Not only that, the present captain, Ben Stokes, is known for making Ali withdraw his retirement announcements a couple of years ago for the Ashes.
