The Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) recently announced that the Divecha Pavilion Level 3 at Wankhede Stadium will be renamed the Rohit Sharma Stand, honouring the India captain’s enduring legacy in Mumbai and Indian cricket. Reacting to the announcement, Rohit Sharma called it an “unreal feeling”, reminiscing about his early days watching Ranji Trophy players from outside the very stadium that now bears his name. “No one dreams of things like this when they are just starting off playing cricket. I still remember those days when I used to stand outside (the) Wankhede Stadium just to enter and watch Mumbai Ranji Trophy team practice; I am talking about 2004 or maybe 2003,” Rohit said at the T20 Mumbai League event, where he was also named the brand ambassador for the tournament’s third edition. Rohit spoke emotionally about his humble beginnings at Azad Maidan: “We used to finish our U-14, U-16 training at Azad Maidan. Me with a few of my friends and, used to travel across the railway track to go and just get a glimpse of some of the Ranji Trophy cricketers. I know how tough it was to get inside the Wankhede Stadium back then.” Reflecting on his journey, Rohit added: “Now, to sit back and think that there is going to be a stadium stand in my name, it is such an unreal feeling. It is something that I have never thought of, and I will be forever grateful for this big honour in my life.” View this post on Instagram A post shared by The Bharat Army (@thebharatarmy) Rohit Sharma’s IPL 2025 form under scrutiny While Rohit Sharma is being honoured for his remarkable career, his form in the ongoing IPL 2025 season has been underwhelming.
