Pakistan's dismal performance against India in the Asia Cup 2025 continued as they once again faced a crushing defeat in the second Super Four match on Sunday. The loss prompted the former captain Shahid Afridi to raise questions about the standards of umpiring, citing Fakhar Zaman's contentious dismissal. Afridi Questions Decision Against Fakhar Zaman Fakhar Zaman, who was promoted to open, began well with three fours before being edged behind for 15 off Hardik Pandya. Sanju Samson's wicketkeeper catch was referred to the TV umpire, who after checking the replay declared it out. The call instilled anger in the Pakistan camp. “Unhone IPL me bhi toh umpiring karni hai [He has to umpire in the IPL too]," Afridi said in a Samaa TV interview, insinuating bias. Fakhar had hit three fours and was dealing with Bumrah with ease in the first over. His wicket was crucial for India." Pakistan Captain Salman Responds Skipper Salman Ali Agha also questioned the dismissal, proposing the ball had bounced before it landed in the gloves of Samson. "Umpires can make mistakes. But it did look like it bounced ahead of the keeper to me. I might be wrong. The way (Fakhar) was batting, if he had batted through the power play, we would probably have scored 190," Salman told the post-match press conference. Even with a consistent half-century by Sahibzada Farhan (58 off 45) and four dropped catches by India, Pakistan reached only 171/5. India coasted to the win in reply as Abhishek Sharma hammered 74 off 39 deliveries, while Shubman Gill contributed 47 off 28. India chased the target in 18.5 overs, securing a six-wicket victory. The defeat once again highlighted Pakistan’s struggles against India, while Afridi’s remarks have added more heat to the ongoing umpiring debate in the Asia Cup 2025.
