The Australian Women's ODI team is not ready to give a single chance to their Indian counterparts in the second semifinal of the ongoing 2025 Women's ODI World Cup at Navi Mumbai. Unlike India, Australia reached the semis smoothly, being undefeated in the tournament. India, on the other hand, will be missing their in-form opener Pratika Rawal, who recently sustained an ankle injury. Despite that, the Australian head coach Shelly Nitschke is not considering India as easy meat. Before the Navi Mumbai's training session on OCtober 29, she said, "We expect a tough contest — there’s no doubt about that. It’s obviously really good conditions and there’s going to be, by all accounts, a massive crowd." Shelly believes that India has a strong backup and has a really deep batting order. Thus, Australia will not be entertaining any illusions. She added, “I know that India have a really strong batting order. They throw everything at us so we certainly need to make sure that we’re ready for them and they bat with a lot of depth now too. We are certainly under no illusions as to the depth and the skill of that batting order and certainly the planning that goes into that is (about) making sure that we’re getting that right as well." Pratika who has been the third-highest run scorer of the tournament, amassing 308 runs. Her opening partner, Smriti Mandhana, scored 365 runs, sitting just above her. In such a scenario, Pratika being ruled out is a headache for India. Read also: Shreyas Iyer Shares Health Update, Eyes NZ Series Return However, Shelly doesn't feel so. She totally brushed out the fact that Rawal's absence is a relief for Australia and said that India will surely find a way to combat the challenge. Shelly said, "Relief? I know that they’ve got a lot of depth in their team. Obviously they’ve had a really good, strong opening partnership with Rawal and Smriti (Mandhana), so that changes things for them." The former spinner further said, “I wouldn’t say it’s a relief, because we certainly know that whoever they put out there, they’ve got a lot of depth with their batting. We’re certainly going to have to be ready and be really well prepared for whatever opening combination that they put out.” Notably, Shafali Varma replaced Pratika in the squad. She has been training with the squad and has a fair share of experience when it comes to knockout matches. Against Australia, she played five ODIs, having just one half century. Australia had an upper hand when it came to Verma, as they restricted a hard-hitting batter like her to a strike rate under 70.
