The umpires traditionally don't have a good reputation when it comes to the matches involving the Mumbai Indians. And on the day when Mumbai qualified for the playoffs, after an easy win against Delhi, questions arose again questioning umpires' transparency. The question isn't about DC's win if the decisions were overturned, but the credibility. There is no doubt the match had two such scenarios. Number 1, the dismissal of Abhishek Porel and number 2, Vipraj Nigam not getting awarded with a four. The second confusion that peaked all debates was when Vipraj hit a helicopter shot, and the ball touched the rope. The confusion came especially when it was not clear if the ball had dropped before touching the boundary or had directly touched it. Well, a difference of two runs wouldn't have cost MI much, keeping in mind the massive 59-run win against DC, but the question rose about the transparency in Vippi's case. It was no doubt a close call, enough to raise eyebrows. The repeated clips showed that Porel was way grounded when the gloves hit the bails. But the third umpire, Chris Gaffney, somehow felt that Porel's leg was in the air. Had Porel been there, the scene could have been different for DC. MI posted 180/5 on a sluggish pitch, then bowled out DC for 121. Santner (3/11) spun a web as DC crumbled, with only Rizvi (39) offering resistance. Playoff hopes dim for Delhi.
