Shardul Thakur got two wickets in his very first over for Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), making an immediate impact in their opening match of the 2025 IPL against Delhi Capitals in Vishakhapatnam. After conceding two runs off the first ball, Thakur struck gold by dismissing Jake Fraser-McGurk. The young batter attempted a big shot but only managed to sky it, allowing Deepak Badoni to take a well-judged catch in the deep. Just a few deliveries later, Thakur removed Abishek Porel for a duck. Porel miscued a lofted shot, and Nicholas Pooran safely held on to the catch at mid-off. However, his fiery spell set the tone for LSG, putting DC under pressure right from the start. Thakur’s journey to this moment had been a rollercoaster. Initially unsold in the 2025 IPL mega auction, he was later seen practicing in the LSG nets. With the franchise dealing with injuries to key pacers, he was drafted in as a replacement for left-arm quick Mohsin Khan. Given a chance to prove himself, Thakur wasted no time in showing why he still belongs on the big stage. Shardul Thakur struck in the very first over, removing Jake Fraser-McGurk and Abishek Porel for cheap, putting DC on the back foot early. Faf du Plessis tried to counterattack with a quickfire 29 off 18 balls, but his dismissal off Ravi Bishnoi further derailed the chase. Axar Patel and Tristan Stubbs showed some resistance, with Stubbs top-scoring with 34 off 22 balls, but they couldn’t build substantial partnerships. LSG bowlers kept the pressure on, with Siddharth picking up key wickets. Ashutosh Sharma remained unbeaten on 17, but by the 13th over, DC had slumped to 115/6, still far from the target. Their struggles against LSG’s disciplined bowling ensured a comfortable defense for Lucknow.
