Australia are set to play the white-ball series against the current World Test Championship (WTC) winners South Africa, which consists of three ODI matches and the same number of T20I matches. After ending their phenomenal campaign against the West Indies on the away tour, Australia are preparing to host South Africa, and they have announced their squad for the tour. Travis Head, who missed the T20I series against West Indies, will return for the series against South Africa, whereas the debutant Mitchell Owen has retained his place in the T20I squad and is the only uncapped player available in the ODI squad. Mitchell Marsh will take the leadership duties in both series. In the absence of the regular Aussie skipper Pat Cummins and star pacer Mitchell Starc, Hazlewood will be leading the pace attack with Ben Dwarshuis and Nathan Ellis. The squad has been selected keeping the upcoming T20 World Cup in mind, allowing the players to get enough game time and Australia to get a formidable squad ahead of the major tournament. Tim David, who became the fastest Australian to hit a T20I century on the West Indies tour, has retained his place in the T20I squad, and Matt Kuhnemann has been given another series. Marnus Labuschagne has retained his place in the ODI squad, but after Cameron Green already getting his slot fixed at number 4, it will be interesting to see if Marnus bats in the lower order or opens the innings along with Josh Inglis in the ODIs.
