Travis Head and Mitchell Marsh will not be available for the Australian 14-man squad to play the three-match ODI series against Pakistan. The two cricketers have been granted paternity leave, which will again give youngster Jake Fraser-McGurk a go at top-order batting. Matt Short, who has impressed while playing in recently concluded white-ball tour of the UK, is likely to partner him as the other specialist opener. Pat Cummins will also feature in his first ODI match after that finale of the 2023 World Cup in Ahmedabad on November 19, 2023. Other pacers in the squad are also set to make their comeback with Josh Hazlewood and Mitchell Starc likely to be appearing in the matches with Cummins for the first time since that final. Marcus Stoinis, too, is returning to the team after Cameron Green suffered a back stress fracture and will miss Australia's summer. He will need six months to recover after surgery. Stoinis has not played since the 2023 World Cup but will face competition from Aaron Hardie as he had a strong UK tour in the white-ball formats.
