Australia's Travis Head have agreed to join Adelaide Strikers in the Big Bash League this season, signing a one-year deal, though he will be available only for three games since he will be busy with international commitments. Head, 30, captained the Strikers to the BBL title in 2017-18 and hasn't played for them since the season just ended. The 30-year-old will only be free to play three BBL matches on January 11, 15, and 18 against Brisbane Heat, Perth Scorchers and Adelaide Strikers as he'll be playing in the five-match Test series against India, followed by the tour to Sri Lanka for a Test series and finally to the Champions Trophy. The BBL, on the other hand, had been hoping for a number of players from the Test squad to boost the competition in the final few weeks of the season. There are, however, fears over the workload given how hard this is going to hit as a result of the demanding Test series against India and how limited the time is to prepare for the tour to Sri Lanka, where spin is the only real challenge. The dates for the Sri Lanka tour have not been confirmed yet, but the first Test may start from January 29. Normally, Australia likes to have a ten-day preparation prior to overseas tours, so Head might have to travel directly from Perth after the Strikers' last game on January 18. He appeared in Major League Cricket in July following a hectic schedule that has included the 2023 ODI World Cup, home Tests, a season of IPL and the T20 World Cup. Head has rested for the ODI and T20I series against Pakistan as he is expecting his second child. His packed schedule will let him play a few BBL games in January-only to move off to the IPL after the Champions Trophy in February and March. Australia could also play in the World Test Championship final after their players particpate in the IPL, and then a Test series against the West Indies in June and July. New Strikers coach Tim Paine knows Head has a hectic schedule but was keen to have him play a few BBL games. Paine said: "We understand Trav has a hectic international schedule. But we also know how much he loves getting back in the blue whenever the chance arises and we look forward to our fans being treated to more of his magic this summer." Other Key Australian Stars Set to Feature in BBL 2024-25 Key players like Steve Smith and David Warner have also signed a multi-year deal with Sydney based franchises. Smith will represent Sydney Sixers, probably in the second half of the tournament, as he will be busy playing for the National side against India in the BGT 2024-25. Warner, on the other hand, will feature for Sydney Thunders. Usman Khawaja and Marnus Labuschagne will also participate in the Big Bash League 2024-25 and the duo will play for the Brisbane Heat franchise. However, they won't be available for the whole season citing the national commitment. Another player from the Australian side for BGT 2024-25 is Nathan Lyon. Melbourne Renegades will enjoy the services of the experienced spinner in the upcoming season of Big Bash League.
