India conducted targeted air strikes against nine terror camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) in the early hours of Wednesday, May 7, under "Operation Sindoor." This came as a retaliation for the recent terrorist attack on Pahalgam, Jammu & Kashmir, that took the lives of 26 civilians. The airstrikes have also generated fears regarding the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025, particularly matches scheduled in northern India. A number of airports in border states have been closed for safety, including Dharamshala, Amritsar, Jammu, Leh, and even partial flights being grounded at Delhi airport. These airports are key for IPL destinations such as Dharamshala and Chandigarh. Teams such as Mumbai Indians (MI), Delhi Capitals (DC), and Punjab Kings (PBKS) now have travel concerns as their next matches are set in these areas. Flights Affected, Matches Under Threat The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) is checking every flight coming and going from the affected regions. Operations have been suspended by airlines such as Air India, and there are planned blackout drills across the nation at 7:30 PM IST, the normal kickoff time of IPL matches. This might lead to delays or even postponements. Dharamshala will host two matches of Punjab Kings, one against Delhi Capitals on May 8 and the last against Mumbai Indians on May 11. On the same date, DC are set to host Gujarat Titans (GT) in Delhi. Flight operations are suspended, and MI could face travel issues. The team can take a road journey or the alternative route via Chandigarh, but strict security might compel the BCCI to shift the game to other destinations such as Mullanpur or Delhi. DC and PBKS are already in Dharamshala, so their May 8 match might still take place under tight security. But matches such as KKR vs CSK and MI vs DC are still uncertain due to the current national emergency drills. The BCCI has not released any official statement yet, but they are likely to make one soon. Regarding playoff hopes, Punjab Kings require two wins to seal the playoffs spot. Delhi Capitals has to win all their remaining matches and expect other teams results to go in their favor. Mumbai Indians, at 14 points, has to win both games to have a good shot at the top four.
