KL Rahul has opened up about how the Indian Premier League (IPL) auction can be a defining moment in a player's career, often determining their future. The Indian batter, who was not retained by the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), had to re-enter the mega auction for IPL 2025. When his name was called out, multiple franchises engaged in a bidding war for him. Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), Chennai Super Kings (CSK), and Delhi Capitals (DC) all fought for the Indian batter, before he was eventually acquired by Delhi Capitals. "The auction was a nerve-wracking experience. As a player, not knowing which team you will end up with is never easy. Over the years, I’ve seen how unpredictable auctions can be—there’s no fixed pattern to how things unfold," he said while speaking to JioHotstar. Rahul also revealed that he felt nervous when his name was called during the auction. "From a player's perspective, it’s even tougher because your career is at stake. The auction can shape a player's future or present unexpected challenges. I was definitely nervous, even a little anxious. But at the same time, I knew this was the right step for my career. There was excitement too, though it didn’t last very long because reality sets in quickly," he said. 'I can’t wait for the IPL to begin' KL Rahul, who played a crucial role in India's ICC Champions Trophy triumph, is set to reunite with several of his international teammates in IPL 2025. "I’m excited to play alongside some incredibly skilled youngsters and learn from them as well. With players like Mitchell Starc, Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav, many of whom I have played with before, we have a solid squad. I can’t wait for the IPL to begin," he said. Rahul also spoke about his relationship with Delhi Capitals' owner, Parth Jindal, revealing that they have shared conversations beyond cricket. "I’m really happy to be joining Delhi Capitals. Parth Jindal, the team’s owner, is a close friend, and we have spent a lot of time outside of cricket discussing various things. I know how passionate he is about the sport, and I’m thrilled to be a part of this team. We have a strong squad, and I’m looking forward to the season ahead," Rahul added. KL Rahul will begin his IPL campaign against his former team, Lucknow Super Giants. Delhi Capitals will face LSG at the ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium on March 24.
