Australian pacer Josh Hazlewood has lavished praise on Indian skipper Rohit Sharma for his ability to score runs in difficult conditions. Since taking over leadership from Virat Kohli, Rohit has been successful as the Test team skipper. Under his skipper, Team India also reached the World Test Championship final last year. Hazlewood, who has at times been on the other end of battles with Rohit Sharma on the field, admitted that it's hard to bowl to the Indian captain. He felt that Rohit always seems to have plenty of time to play his shots. Hazlewood said on Star Sports, “I remember one time India came out, he batted at 5 or 6 and then last time he opened. He’s faced the new ball a lot. I feel like he plays the quicks unbelievably well. The bounce doesn’t seem to worry him, the movement doesn’t. He’s got all the time in the world. So, I find him quite tough to bowl to," Also Read | Starc Passes Mitchell Johnson to Become Australia’s 4th Highest ODI Wicket-Taker Rohit in Latest ICC Test Rankings In the latest ICC Test rankings, Rohit Sharma stayed in the top ten but dropped five places as he failed with low scores in the first Test against Bangladesh. Top Australian spinner Nathan Lyon also named Rohit as one of the biggest threats to Australia in the upcoming 2024/25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy. He said, “Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and Rishabh Pant are probably going to be the three really big ones. But then you've still got Jaiswal, Shubman Gill, Jadeja, and who else will come out—another five, I'm not sure. It's a pretty amazing line-up they've got, so it's going to be a massive challenge. As I said, if we, as a bowling group, are good enough for long periods, hopefully, we can challenge their defence,” Since winning the Border-Gavaskar series 2-0 in 2014-15, Australia has lost four series to India. They lost two to Virat Kohli's team (2016-17, 2018-19), one to Ajinkya Rahane (2021), and one to Rohit Sharma (2023). Team India began a two-match Test series against Bangladesh in Chennai on September 19. They won the first Test easily and will play the second Test on Friday. India is at the top of the World Test Championship (WTC) points table, with Australia in second place. In this WTC cycle, India completed three-Test series against West Indies, South Africa and England. India has emerged victorious against the West Indies and England, while draws were shared with South Africa at 1-1 in the series.
