Yash Dayal suffered a heartbreak when he was taken for five consecutive sixes by Rinku Singh in the IPL. However, today, he left-arm pacer has turned his fortunes around with Royal Challengers Bengaluru, becoming one of their go-to bowlers in crunch moments. Since that brutal over, Yash Dayal has bowled the final over in five matches and ended up on the winning side every single time. This includes two victories over Chennai Super Kings. While he has earned the trust of skipper Rajat Patidar, it all began with the backing of Virat Kohli. Speaking to the Times of India, Yash Dayal's father Chanderpal Dayal credited Virat Kohli for backing his son during the tough times. "Virat Kohli has supported him a lot. When Yash joined RCB, Virat would often call him to his room, and sometimes, he would go to Yash’s room himself. They discussed that over [from 2024], and Virat told him one thing: ‘Keep working hard, toofan macha de. Main hoon tere saath. Chinta mat karna. Mehnat karna mat chhodna. Galtiyan karna, par seekhna aur aage badhna.’ Virat has given him a lot of freedom and turned him into a fearless cricketer," Chanderpal Dayal told TOI. He also added how Virat Kohli's support has helped him gain confidence when everyone else had lost faith in his son. “I have seen many cricketers break down, especially bowlers, but Virat has connected them with his own hands,” he said, crediting the former RCB captain. The drama peaked when he dismissed MS Dhoni but followed it up with a no-ball that Shivam Dube smashed for six. Despite the setback, Dayal kept his composure and conceded just three singles in the remaining deliveries. “It’s never over till the last ball is bowled in cricket. Yash is more mature now. I’m sure even the fans had given up, my family did too. But I was confident that Yash would pull it off. And he did. His calmness was the key in this match," said Chanderpal. Though Yash isn’t among the leading wicket-takers, he has taken 10 wickets from 11 games and has consistently stepped up when it matters. Dayal has bowled 17 overs inside the powerplay and has picked up three wickets while going for 9.94 runs per over.
