New Zealand has started this on-going three-game Test series against the in-form team of India with a stunning note. Latham replaced Tim Southee as captain of the Black Caps; in his very first game after taking over the job from Southee, Latham wrote history. Tom Latham is now the third New Zealand captain to have won a Test on Indian soil after his team defeated India in the first Test of the series at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. He joins an exclusive club along with Graham Dowling and John Wright. In other words, New Zealand's second victory on Indian soil came after 19 years. New Zealand had beaten Dilip Vengsarkar-led India by 136 runs, under the captaincy of John Wright in 1988. But it's different in 2024, and Tom Latham was able to guide New Zealand to their third win against the team India. The opening test of the series was played between both teams here in Bengaluru. India were bowled out with just 46 runs in the first innings while batting first. New Zealand came back with a bang and got 402 in response, thus rendering huge advantage. Indians could manage only 462 in their second innings, and the visitors needed to make a mere 107 for victory. That's an easily manageable target for the Black Caps. Eventually, New Zealand took the first Test of the series by eight wickets and went in to lead the three-game affair. Tom Latham scripting his name in history, the star batter will hope to put in similar performances in the second and third Test of the series and clinch the series.
