Cheteshwar Pujara has criticised Glenn Maxwell’s underwhelming IPL approach. Speaking on ESPNcricinfo, the Indian batter questioned Maxwell’s mindset and commitment to the IPL. According to Pujara, the Australian all-rounder has failed to evolve despite being part of the league for over a decade. “He hasn’t changed the way he has approached the IPL. There have been times when he’s been a little casual. He’s the same as he was, maybe eight to ten years ago. I’m a little critical, but there are times when, as a player, you need to wake up,” Pujara said. Maxwell has endured a disappointing campaign with the bat so far in IPL 2025. In five innings, he has managed to score only 41 runs. His average stands at 8.20, and his strike rate has dropped to just 100. For a player known for explosive hitting, these numbers are well below par. He has taken four wickets across matches and holds the best economy rate in the PBKS bowling unit, conceding runs at 8.46 per over. However, that hasn't been enough to offset the growing concern around his performances with the bat. Pujara questions Maxwell's commitment towards IPL Maxwell has been part of the IPL since 2012. Despite occasional standout seasons, inconsistency has plagued much of his career. Pujara also questioned Maxwell’s seriousness toward the cash-rich T20 league. He suggested that some players may be taking their roles for granted and not showing the urgency expected at this level. “You need to realise you’re getting an opportunity to play and be part of a franchise where things are at stake. And there are times a player can get casual, they’re not worried about what’s happening,” he added. Punjab Kings, however, have still managed to do reasonably well. They currently sit fourth on the IPL 2025 points table, with four wins and two losses from six matches. PBKS are set to take on Royal Challengers Bangalore next. It remains to be seen if Maxwell can answer his critics with a strong performance.
