After Australia's 1-2 ODI series defeat against Pakistan, former Australian Test team captain Tim Paine feels that it is too much to exaggerate the loss, as most of the key players have been rested to prepare for the upcoming Border Gavaskar Trophy against India. Pakistan, even though they lost the first ODI at Melbourne, came back stronger, sealing the series by 2-1, thus registering their victory after 22 years on Australian soil. It was in 2002; they won there against the Aussies. With Pakistan winning it, many started to criticize Australia. Michael Vaughan recently predicted the extinction of bilateral series. Paine is feeling irritated with all these. Let's just pump the brakes on the, ‘I can't believe we're seeing this performance from the world champions’. We're blooding some youth to give them experience at the international level whilst the big boys get ready for two hugely important series – one in Test cricket and one in white-ball. Relax. It’s okay." Paine waves off "World Cup holder" trolls It looked astonishing that the 2023 ODI World Cup winners Australia lost to Pakistan. Paine clarified with his sharp mouth that half of the World Cup winners are prioritizing the BGT and not the ODI Series. “People were saying, ‘Oh, I can't believe how bad the Australian cricket team are’, these are cricket commentators and world-class cricket commentators saying, ‘I can't believe what I'm watching, this the World Cup holders’. No, it's not. The World Cup holders are sitting on the couch getting ready for a Test series." Australia's key players, including captain Pat Cummins, Steve Smith, Marnus Labuschagne, Mitchell Starc, and Josh Hazlewood, were rested for the third and final ODI against Pakistan. In their absence, Australia struggled, managing only 140 runs and losing the match by 8 wickets. Additionally, Mitchell Marsh and Travis Head will miss the T20I series due to paternity leave. The aforementioned players, except for Travis Head, are included in Australia's 13-member squad for the first Test against India in Perth, starting from November 22.
