The 2026 T20 World Cup is just around the corner, and as teams gear up for this big ICC event, Australia might be feeling a bit anxious about Tim David’s fitness. The hard-hitting batter picked up an injury during the recent match between the Perth Scorchers and Hobart Hurricanes in the Big Bash League (BBL) 2025-26. In his fourth game for the Hurricanes, David appeared to have suffered a hamstring injury. While the Hurricanes were chasing a target of 151 at the Perth Stadium, they found themselves at 101/4 after 14 overs, with David leading the charge at 41 runs off 26 balls. Unfortunately, in the next over, while attempting to take a simple single, David hurt himself. He let the umpire know that it was his hamstring giving him trouble. Despite his discomfort, he tried to carry on, but just one ball later, the physio rushed out, and David had to make his way back to the pavilion. The reigning champions of the Indian Premier League (IPL) had already felt David's absence during the IPL 2025 playoffs due to the same injury, and it could very well haunt them again. If David has indeed sustained a hamstring injury, he could be sidelined for anywhere from 3 weeks to over 3 months. A Grade 1 (mild) injury might see him back in about 3 weeks, but if it’s a Grade 2 (moderate) issue, recovery could take 1 to 2 months. In the worst-case scenario of a Grade 3 (severe tear/rupture), he could be out for 3 months or more. This means David might miss the T20 World Cup, and there’s a chance he could also be absent for the early part of the IPL 2026 season.
