Former India cricketer Suresh Raina has thrown his weight behind Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) to finally lift their maiden IPL title in 2025, saying the franchise looks like a team destined to go all the way this season. Speaking on Star Sports ahead of RCB’s much-anticipated clash against Kolkata Knight Riders on May 17, Raina praised the Rajat Patidar-led side for their remarkable form and composure under pressure, especially with the ball at their home ground. “There are strong chances because Royal Challengers Bengaluru is playing in a different league this year. They've defended scores like 150 and 136 at Chinnaswamy, and their bowling unit has stepped up. The new captain has beaten Chennai Super Kings twice—once in Chennai and again at home, which speaks volumes,” Raina said. RCB, long known for their firepower but inconsistency, have flipped the script this season with a more balanced squad and sharp bowling performances. With eight wins from eleven matches, the team sits second on the points table and has already secured qualification for the playoffs. Yes, Mumbai Indians, Gujarat Titans, and Punjab Kings are also doing well, but this might finally be Virat's year to lift the trophy after 18 years,” he added. Although Kohli stepped down from RCB captaincy in 2021, he remains the franchise’s heart and soul, and his form this season has also contributed to the team’s rise. The current opener has smashed 505 runs from his 11 matches with an average close to 64. He is currently 4th in the Orange Cap race, with Suryakumar Yadav topping the list.
