As IPL 2025 reaches its climax, veteran batter Shikhar Dhawan has revealed his pick for the champion ahead of the Qualifier Two. With Mumbai Indians all set to take on PBKS on Sunday, Dhawan believes the five-time champions are looking the strongest. “This time, the IPL has been very exciting. For the finals, my support will be with Mumbai Indians. The Mumbai Indians team is playing really well, they are very balanced. The way they've gained momentum is outstanding, and they are a very strong and well-balanced team. So, I'm with Mumbai Indians,” Dhawan said. Notably, Dhawan was a part of MI squad in 2009 and 2010 before moving to Deccan Chargers and later Sunrisers Hyderabad. In 2019, he moved back to Delhi and played for DC until 2021. In the last two years of his IPL career, he played for Punjab Kings. Also READ: Scam in Rajasthan Royals? Led by Jasprit Bumrah's strong performance, MI have made a strong comeback in the second half of the tournament after a shaky start. 'Perfect candidate': Dhawan reacts to Shubman Gill’s Test captaincy Dhawan also shared his thoughts on Shubman Gill being appointed as India’s new Test captain after Rohit Sharma announced his retirement from the longest format. “I feel it's a great choice. Shubman has performed really well in the IPL recently. He is a great talent and has matured — he’s been playing for the Indian team for several years now. I feel he’s the perfect candidate to take on the Test captaincy, and I’m sure he will handle it well and lead the team together. This is the new generation now — Gen Z — and I’m confident he’ll do a great job. All my best wishes to him,” Dhawan said. Gill’s captaincy stint will begin with a tough away tour of England starting June 20. India will be without key names like Virat Kohli and R Ashwin for the five-Test series, making it a challenging first assignment for the youngster.
