Former Delhi cricketer Surinder Khanna lashes out on Indian team by deeming them as a bunch of liars after India suffered a defeat on the hands of Australia in the Boxing Day Test at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG). Rohit Sharma-led team India lost by 184 runs to trail 1-2 in the series. Surinder Khanna from Delhi slammed team India after this defeat. Khanna commented on the dismissal of Yashasvi Jaiswal which created a controversy. In the 71st over of India's 2nd innings, Cummins bowled a bouncer and Jaiswal tried for pull but couldn't connect it well and the ball, with a seeming touch with the gloves, travelled to Alex Carey. The Aussie wicket-keeper took the catch and him, along with his fellow mates appealed for a wicket. Joel Wilson, the on-field umpire, initially declared it as not out, but Pat Cummins went up to the third umpire Sharfuddoula Saikat by reviewing the decision. Sharfuddoula checked it multiple times but there wasn't any movement in the snicko. However, there was a clear deflection after the ball went past Jaiswal and due to this, he asked the Joel Wilson to change his decision and signal out. Post this incident, Jaiswal was seen having some words with the umpire and pointing out this incident, Khanna made a statement in which he called the Indian team as a bunch of liars. Akash Deep also complained of a similar thing when he was caught out. ‘Juthe log hai yeh’ (These people are liars), you have to play fair first then only you’ll start winning.” He added: “When the bat is in your hand, how can you not know about edging the ball? We have played bad and we have lost. What kind of batting they’re doing? Come the IPL, these players will hit runs. Don’t play over-aggressive T20 cricket and play positively. Let’s hope that the luck changes in the New Year (for the Indian team)." India is currently trailing 1-2 in the series and all they need to do is win the Sydney Test to not only retain the BGT, but to also keep the hope of WTC 2023-25 Final qualification alive. A draw or defeat in the final Test will knock them out of the qualification race.
