MS Dhoni has admitted that his controversial on-field outburst during IPL 2019 was a mistake which he regrets the most in his IPL career. The incident occurred during the Chennai Super Kings’ clash against the Rajasthan Royals in IPL 2019. Chasing 152, CSK needed 18 runs off the final over. Ben Stokes bowled the final over, and in the third delivery, he dismissed Dhoni for 58 off 43 balls. With eight runs required from three deliveries, Stokes bowled a low full toss. The on-field umpire initially signaled a no-ball but quickly revoked the decision. This sparked a dramatic reaction from Dhoni, who stormed onto the field from the dugout to confront the umpires. He indulged in a heated argument. Despite the controversy, CSK clinched victory with Mitchell Santner smashing a six off the final ball. However, Dhoni was fined 50% of his match fee for violating the IPL Code of Conduct. Looking back at the moment six years later, Dhoni acknowledged that emotions got the better of him. "That was a big mistake. It happened in one of the IPL games when I walked onto the field. But there have been other moments where emotions took over," Dhoni said during a conversation with Mandira Bedi at a MasterCard event. He spoke about the importance of maintaining composure, especially in high-pressure situations. "When you're angry or frustrated, it's best to stay quiet and step away. Taking deep breaths helps. It’s similar to handling pressure—if you detach yourself from the result, decision-making becomes easier. Your emotions should never cloud your judgment," he added. Dhoni joins the CSK camp ahead of IPL 2025 MS Dhoni was one of the first players to report to the Chennai Super Kings’ pre-season camp for IPL 2025. The legendary wicketkeeper, who retired from international cricket in 2019, is set to embark on his 18th IPL season. Dhoni is also on the verge of rewriting CSK’s record books. He trails Suresh Raina in the CSK’s all-time run-scorers' list, with Raina leading at 5,529 runs and Dhoni following at 5,118.
