Arshdeep Singh’s injury has added a layer of anxiety to India’s already fragile preparations ahead of the Manchester Test. The left-arm pacer hurt his bowling hand during a net session on Thursday. Medical staff rushed in as Arshdeep halted practice, visibly grimacing. A tape was later seen wrapped around his fingers, though no official statement has confirmed the injury’s severity. India, trailing 1-2 in the five-match series, face a must-win scenario. With the fourth Test set to begin on July 23 at Old Trafford, Arshdeep’s availability remains under question. Compounding the headache is Jasprit Bumrah’s workload. The premier pacer missed the second Test and has featured only intermittently. Before the series, chief selector Ajit Agarkar had remarked that “Bumrah will not play all five Tests,” suggesting possible rotation or rest. However, several reports are suggesting that Bumrah will be available at Manchester. And whether Arshdeep was even in the plan or not is still a question. Rishabh Pant, who kept wickets during the Lord’s thriller, was seen nursing his index finger after a sharp delivery on Day 4. While he batted on, the BCCI hasn’t released a detailed medical report. His fitness will be closely monitored over the next few days. England aren’t unscathed either. Spinner Shoaib Bashir has been ruled out with a fractured left little finger. The injury occurred while fielding a Ravindra Jadeja drive. Though Bashir dismissed Siraj to end India’s second innings, he bowled only 5.5 overs. The ECB confirmed surgery is scheduled, and Liam Dawson has been named as his replacement. The squad for the fourth Test is expected to be announced shortly.
