The current underdog and a rising cricket sensation, a 14-year-old child prodigy, Vaibhav Suryavanshi, grabbed the headlines when he became the youngest player to score the fastest century in the Indian Premier League (IPL) this year. He has been an unstoppable force since then, scoring consistent runs for the U-19 Indian team during the recent tours. Recently, the former Indian batter Ambati Rayudu showered his praise on this teenage prodigy. Speaking on Shubhankar Mishra’s podcast, Rayudu called Suryavanshi a rare talent and compared his skills to the legendary West Indies batter Brian Lara. On the Podcast, Rayudu said: “His bat speed is extraordinary. The way he whips the ball is special. I hope nobody changes that. He should get better. Someone like Lara... maybe go and talk to him. He also had a similar type of bat lift. So he can learn about how to control the bat speed when you are defending and when you are playing with a soft hand. With the right guidance, he will be an extraordinary talent.” He further said that he doesn’t require unnecessary tips regarding his style of gameplay; however, he plays, he will go big by backing his talent. “He only has to focus on one thing, and that is he should not listen to many people. Don’t listen to people; just back your talent. And for coaches also, it is important that usko zyada gyaan mat do. Leave him.” Also Read: Matthew Breetzke Scripts History, Achieves Rare ODI World Record Rayudu further added that having a mentor like Rahul Dravid will surely help the kid to improve his batting skills. Rahul Dravid, the head coach of the Rajasthan Royals, is known for providing guidance to the young and nurturing players and grooming them. RR bought him for just INR 1.10 crore during the mega auction ahead of the IPL 2025, and he proved himself a worthy purchase for that amount. Suryavanshi’s talent is just restricted here; recently, he scored a record-breaking 52-ball century in the fourth ODI against England Under-19 during his debut England tour. This record-breaking century etched his name in the record books for scripting history by scoring the fastest century in the Youth ODIs.
