The craze of Virat Kohli has crossed the Indian border and reached the den of the Taliban in Afghanistan, so an official really wanted to extend Kohli's career for about 14 years more. A leader of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan and the Taliban movement, Anas Haqqani had attended Shubhankar Mishra's podcast and said that he was really shocked to see Kohli retiring from the Tests. Kohli's test retirement was indeed shocking. The man who maintained peak fitness and had a dream of piling 10,000 Test runs pulled down the curtain before reaching that. Even though Rohit Sharma's retirement came surprisingly, Haqqani did expect it. But Kohli's departure was unacceptable to him. Haqqani said, "Rohit's retirement from Tests was justified. I don't know the cause behind Kohli's retirement. Very few people across the world are that unique. My wish is that he tries to play till he is 50." Haqqani, moreover, blamed Indian media for chasing Kohli. While the English stalwart Joe Root is trying to breach the gap between his and Sachin Tendulkar's tally, Haqqani believed that Kohli had time. He added, "Maybe he was frustrated by the media in India. He still had time. You can see Joe Root chasing Sachin Tendulkar's tally of Test runs." Kohli likely to return in action in October There were several rumors going on regarding Ro-Ko's retirement. While reports said that Rohit Sharma was kinda pressurized, Virat Kohli was literally requested to stay, but the latter denied. Rohit Sharma retired from the format on May 7, in the middle of the 2025 Indian Premier League, with a simple Instagram story. Meanwhile, Kohli called his time on May 12, five days after Rohit Sharma's departure. He finished his Test career at the age of 36 with 9230 Test runs, averaging 46.85 in 210 innings. Kohli boasts 30 centuries in the format, with his final one coming at Perth in the 2024-25 Border Gavaskar Trophy. After a brief discussion, BCCI elected Shubman Gill as the Test captain. He went to England and led India to a 2-2 draw. Notably, both Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli are active in only one format- the One Day Internationals. India will be touring Australia this October, and both Rohit and Virat are likely to be featured in the series.
