2007 T20 World Cup-winning former Indian batter Robin Uthappa has urged the Indians to not underestimate any of the teams participating in the 2025 Asia Cup. The Asia Cup, played in the T20 format, is expected to be a preparatory one for the teams before the 2026 T20 Men's World Cup. Even though India starts as the favorite, Uthappa reminds that all teams have equal potential to reach the podium. Dark horses like Afghanistan and underdogs like UAE might be potential challenges for India. Speaking to Sony Sports, Uthappa said, "I think complacency is a danger, so I’d make sure they take every game respectfully. The quality of players is so good that sometimes you can take your foot off the pedal, thinking, ‘Listen, we’ll dominate, so you can relax.’ That is something they need to look out for." However, Robin Uthappa sensed that a little bit of ego may destroy the team environment. Uthappa has also urged maintaining unity in the team. The Asia Cup squad is a potential one for the upcoming T20 World Cup. Each and every player is fighting for their spot in the team. In such a scenario, Uthappa has asked to refrain from ego clashes. He said, "They need to make sure the health of the team is really good. In this unit, there may be two or three more guys who are going to be the key contenders for the World Cup next year. So you want everyone getting along, keeping the dressing room atmosphere light, but at the same time, playing for each other." Afghanistan can pressure India: Robbie Uthappa Robin Uthappa feels that Afghanistan can give tough competition to India. With the bunch of spinners they bought in, India might land in trouble with them. Uthappa said, "A team like Afghanistan, where the bowling is really good, can put pressure on them." Notably, Afghanistan played the tournament opener against Hong Kong and sealed a 94-run win. India will play their first match today against the host UAE.
