Bangladesh Cricket is facing some challenging times in International cricket, especially in Tests. Bangladesh after their away series win against Pakistan hasn’t been able to put up a respectable fight in the cricket arena. Bangladesh’s skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto has submitted his resignation as captain. He has expressed his intention to step down from leading the team across all three formats after the ongoing series against South Africa. However, it’s reported that the Bangladesh Cricket Board has yet to accept his resignation. Interestingly, Najmul Hossain Shanto was absent from the scheduled press conference before the match against South Africa. Shanto's absence has sparked curiosity and fueled rumors, as journalists at the venue eagerly awaited his response amid speculation about his possible resignation. Instead, Taijul Islam was sent in his place, and the spinner openly expressed his willingness to assume the captaincy if Shanto chooses to step down, stating he is prepared to take up the role. As quoted by Cricbuzz, Taijul Islam said: “I haven't heard anything on this matter (regarding Najmul quitting from captaincy). It's not part of our role, I'm not fully informed on this. Having played for 10 years, I'm fully prepared.” Following their series win in Pakistan, Bangladesh suffered two consecutive setbacks in red-ball cricket, first with two away losses to India and then in the opening Test at home against South Africa. But Taijul remains focused on moving forward and hopes the team will deliver a stronger performance in the second Test in Chattogram. He further said: “Every match is an opportunity. From that perspective, I think this is another chance for the batters.”
