Taijul Islam has scripted history in the first ongoing Test match between Bangladesh and South Africa in Mirpur as he becomes the fastest Bangladeshi bowler to reach the 200 Test wicket tally. In the first ongoing Test match against South Africa in Mirpur, Bangladesh after winning the toss, decided to bat first but soon after they started their innings the entire batting order got tumbled for just 106 runs. Kagiso Rabada and Wiaan Mulder wreaked havoc on the Bangladeshi batting lineup. Rabada also achieved a major milestone, he became the fastest bowler to take 300 Test wickets. Despite gaining a 34-run lead, they found themselves in trouble, losing six wickets. Taijul Islam was the standout performer, claiming a five-wicket haul—his 13th in Test cricket. Islam’s impressive figures of 5/48 included the wickets of Tony de Zorzi, Tristan Stubbs, Ryan Rickelton, Matthew Breetzke, and David Bedingham. Notably, Taijul Islam's five-wicket haul made him only the second Bangladeshi bowler, after Shakib Al Hasan, to reach 200 Test wickets. Islam achieved this milestone in just 48 Tests, surpassing Shakib's record in the process, which he had set by reaching the same milestone in 54 Test matches. Taijul Islam is also inching towards another personal milestone, needing just two more wickets to match Shakib Al Hasan's record for the most Test wickets on home soil for Bangladesh.
