Sri Lanka Cricket has confirmed that Lanka Premier League in 2025 will not happen according to its initial plan. This comes when the T20 World Cup 2026 is around the corner. India and Sri Lanka are the co-hosts. The massive tournament is scheduled to be held in February and March next year. The Lankan cricket authority hinted at improving the venues that will stage the matches for the T20 World Cup in next year as the cause of the ICC postponement. LPL 2025 was initially slated to be held from December 1 to December 23. The priority is now known to be on the development of the current infrastructure of the stadiums, construction of player facilities, development of broadcasting facilities and enhancing the capacity of media centre's amenities to be aligned with international demands in accordance with the usual standards. The improvements are expected to resume as soon as the tournament ends. The previous time Sri Lanka hosted an ICC tournament goes all the way back to 2012, also for the T20 World Cup that year. The SLC ensured that the choice to abandon the original scheduling of the LPL is a one which is driven by strategic reasons. This is to make sure that the venues are ready to accommodate big crowds and host the big events of cricket. The board has also resolved that thee LPL will be deferred to a more appropriate time. Due course announcement of the updated schedule of the league would be made. There were five previous instalments played. Jaffna Stallions (rebranded to Jaffna Kings after the first edition) have won four times.
