Indian captain Suryakumar Yadav's move to push young Tilak Varma to bat at number three position in the fourth and final T20I against South Africa proved remarkable. The 22-year-old had so far batted at number four in the series and had approached captain Suryakumar asking for promotion up the batting order. Apparently without any hiccups, Yadav 'volunteered' to give up his place at the number three position. Here is what Suryakumar said to Cricbuzz "It was actually running in my mind that there has been a time when one man has batted consistently at No. 3 and done wonders for India, so this was a perfect situation, perfect opportunity for a young guy and definitely someone like him, showing a lot of promise... and we both actually spoke to each other and said, 'I think it's the perfect time for someone like you to bat at number three, take that responsibility, not only now, but going forward as well," Also Read | Karnataka Announces 15-Man Squad for Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2024 Varma responded to the challenge with back-to-back T20I centuries, only the fifth player in history to have done so.
