Former India spinner Sunil Joshi will assume the responsibility of the new spin bowling coach at the BCCI Centre of Excellence (CoE) in Bengaluru from October 1. The 55-year-old has rich experience, having worked in domestic and international cricket coaching. Joshi was very much in action during the recently held Duleep Trophy as well as toured with the India A team for their matches vs. Australia A in Lucknow. His new posting will mean Punjab Kings will have to find a new assistant coach, as Joshi was also a part of the IPL-coaching team under Ricky Ponting last season. He replaces Sairaj Bahutale, who was earlier working as spin bowling coach at the CoE but joined Rajasthan Royals ahead of IPL 2025. Indian cricket board had requested applications for the job in March this year, underlining that the job is "integral to the development and performance enhancement of India's spin bowling talent across all formats and age groups including India Senior Teams (Men & Women), India A, U-23, U-19, U-16, and U-15 squads and State association players training at the BCCI COE." Joshi will collaborate closely with CoE Head VVS Laxman in identifying, developing, and nurturing spinners of the future. He will work not just with the future talent but also with existing Indian team spinners who train at the CoE on a regular basis. With this move, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) aims to strengthen India’s spin bowling resources and ensure a continuous pipeline of talented spinners across formats. Joshi’s vast experience as a former international player and coach is expected to provide valuable guidance to young and senior spinners alike.
