Rishabh Pant has suffered an index finger injury on Day 1 while catching a ball on the leg side. Following that, India's backup keeper, Dhruv Jurel, was managing the wicketkeeper duties. Rishabh, however, did not shy away from batting and scored a solid 74 runs before suffering a bizarre runout off English captain Ben Stokes. In such heat, the former Indian legendary batter Sunil Gavaskar found out that England was desperately targeting his injury, doing bodyline bowling. Notably, Stokes had six fielders on the leg side, hoping Pant would edge one. Even Pant got hit on his injury quite a number of times. Stokes hit him, targeting bouncers over Pant's left shoulder. More than half the balls they bowled to him were bouncers. Rishabh hit a few but got restrained and summoned the physio. And at that moment, Gavaskar fumed. On Day 3, doing commentary on SkySports, gavaskar was heard saying, "Fifty-six percent of the balls bowled today have been short. They have four fielders on the boundary waiting for the bouncer. That is not cricket, according to me. When the West Indies were bowling short, they brought in a rule for only two bouncers per over. That was to restrict the strength of the West Indies." He added, "Now we are seeing bouncers being bowled. Look at the field that has been arranged. This is not cricket. There should not be more than six fielders on the leg side. If Sourav Ganguly, who is the chairman of the ICC Men's Cricket Committee, is watching this, please make sure that next time not more than six fielders can be kept on the leg side."
