India lost the final and fifth test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 at the famous Sydney Cricket Ground, handing over the series 3-1 to Australia. This loss disqualifies India from the final of the World Test Championship, scheduled in June. India started the series in a big manner with a comfortable 295-run win in Perth but could not sustain the momentum. They lost the matches in Adelaide, Melbourne, and Sydney, while the third Test in Brisbane was drawn due to rain. After the last game of the series, former India batter Sunil Gavaskar was left fuming over the team's poor performances. When asked about his thoughts on what India can do to improve and what went wrong for them against Australia, a disappointed Gavaskar fired multiple sarcastic remarks. Here is what Gavaskar told Star Sports "Who are we? We don't know cricket. We just speak just for the sake of TV and get money, don't listen to us, we're nothing. Listen from one ear, remove from another,” honestly speaking, if the trophy was named after me i'd have been pissed in a similar way Credits: disney+ hotstar pic.twitter.com/hZemQiUP2G — s (@_sectumsempra18) January 5, 2025 Also Read | Reset and refocus: AB de Villiers shared mantra to Virat Kohli for overcoming his off-side woes Gavaskar also expressed his opinion on not being invited to the presentation ceremony of the series, as Allan Border was called to hand over the trophy to Pat Cummins, and Gavaskar finished his media commitments off the stage. “I certainly would have loved to have been there for the presentation. After all, it is the Border-Gavaskar Trophy and it is about Australia and India. I mean, I am here on the ground. To me, it should not matter that Australia won when it comes to the presentation. They played better cricket so they won. That’s fine. Just because I am an Indian (I did not present the trophy). I would have been happy to present the trophy with my good friend Allan Border,”
