Former Indian cricketer Aakash Chopra believes that Rohit Sharma might opt for Washington Sundar over Kuldeep Yadav in the final of the ongoing Champions Trophy. India is set to face New Zealand in the final on March 9th. Ahead of the final, Aakash Chopra mentioned that Washington Sundar could be a better choice since New Zealand's lineup features several left-handed batters. However, Aakash Chopra feels that Washington Sundar would be a more effective option. While reviewing the final in his Youtube channel, Aakash Chopra said: "Washington Sundar was picked because India could have an off-spin variation. We need it when the opposition has many left-handed batters. Now, which team has a lot of them? It is New Zealand. Sundar has already performed well against them". He also added that India might go in with the same team, but if they decide to make a change, bringing in Sundar for Kuldeep would be the only swap he'd consider. "If we want to make a change in the spin unit, we can play Sundar in place of Kuldeep. There is no hard and fast rule that you have to stick with the same team. If there is any change to be made tactically, then replacing Kuldeep with Sundar is the only change I will make". 'Two Years Is a Long Time': Aakash Chopra on Rohit-Kohli Retirement Aakash Chopra also shared his thoughts on the potential retirements of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli. He stressed that the decision ultimately lies with the players themselves but expects both to remain involved at least until the 2027 World Cup. "The World Cup is still two years away, and two years is a long time. To be fair, many ODIs have been kept in the coming 12 months. So they will remain involved. I don't know what's there in their mind in terms of ODIs. I won't say never say never, but, for now, it's up to them," he added. Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma have already retired from T20Is after securing the trophy. While their future in other formats remains uncertain, they are likely to continue at least until the 2027 World Cup. Notably, Rohit Sharma has yet to win an ODI World Cup, while Virat Kohli was part of the Indian team that lifted the trophy in 2011.
