Chennai Super Kings head coach Stephen Fleming has brushed aside the growing rumours around MS Dhoni’s potential retirement from the Indian Premier League, saying the legendary wicketkeeper-batter is “still going strong.” The speculation around MS Dhoni's retirement became a talking point when there were reports about him leading the franchise in the absence of injured Ruturaj Gaikwad. The speculation grew stronger when Dhoni's family were present at the stadium. "No, that's not my role to put an end to it. I have no idea. I'm just enjoying working with him. He's still going strong. I don't even ask these days. You guys are the ones that ask (about retirement)," Fleming said at the post-match press conference. 'It was tough to watch' On Saturday, CSK management decided to promote Dhoni at No.7 from No.9. He ended up sharing 84 runs for the sixth wicket alongside Vijay Shankar, where Dhoni made an unbeaten 30 from 26 balls. Despite their efforts, CSK fell 25 runs short of the total. Fleming defended Dhoni’s timing at the crease and said the pitch had become slower by the time he walked out. "The intent was there. When he went out, I think the ball started to grip a little bit more... That period from 12 to 16 overs was difficult for all. It was tough to watch and certainly tough to be out there," he said. The CSK coach Fleming also acknowledged that their batting has not lived up to expectations. He called for better performance, especially from the top order. "We need to have one or two players in form, predominantly the top three or four. That then allows the power hitters to finish off to come in at the right spots," Fleming added. He also mentioned that Shivam Dube is “close” to delivering but just hasn't clicked yet, and small margins are proving costly for the team. After three losses from four matches, CSK find themselves in the 9th spot, just above SRH in the points table. The five-time champions will return to action on April 8, where they will take on Punjab Kings.
