Ahead of the highly anticipated IPL 2025 meeting on Friday, March 28, at MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai, Stephen Fleming, coach of the Chennai Super Kings (CSK), addressed concerns regarding the Royal Challengers-Bengaluru's (RCB) possible excessive reliance on Virat Kohli. Kohli, in his 18th IPL season with RCB, has been a big name in the business ever since his debut in 2008 after leading India to glory in the Under-19 World Cup. The star batter started IPL 2025 with an unbeaten 59 that saw RCB clinch a seven-wicket victory over the defending champions at Eden Gardens last week. The former Indian captain is preparing to face CSK in their second match of IPL 2025 on Friday. He has fought with CSK before and has done exposure of an averaging score of 1,053 in 33 games at the average of 37.61 with nine fifties to his name. Discussions have emerged about RCB becoming dependent on Kohli and captain Rajat Patidar as CSK prepares for this home ground showdown. Addressing this, Fleming said it is too early to judge based on the first game because both teams are with changes to last season. The RCB and CSK from last year are quite different. We don't look into past performances. Certainly, looking at their team, Virat Kohli is a big part of it. But they have strength in their team, like most franchises do. The competition is pretty even this year. If we keep him and Patidar quiet, then it will help us to win.” CSK coach confirmed that old records do not matter in their planning. At the same time, he accepted that Kohli remains a part of their strategy. Fleming expressed that Kohli and Patidar should be controlled to improve CSK's chances of winning in Chennai. In order to game conditions that are quite good for spinning conditions at MA Chidambaram Stadium, he has also urged for teams to have the flexibility to cope with varying pitches across the tournament. Fleming Explained: “It's difficult; we don't have much influence on what comes up. Each pitch has a different characteristic, so we'll work really hard to work out what'll work and what we have and try to get us pretty well equipped for all conditions, because that's been the key here.” Also Read: Ambati Rayudu: 'Chennai Crowd Wants Dhoni to Bat, Literally Asking You to Get Out' However, he did not give any updates about Matheesha Pathirana's injury or possible lineup changes involving Vijay Shankar and Andre Siddharth.
