India suffered two early dismissals against Australia in the second ODI at Adelaide—Shubman Gill, the Indian captain, departed for 9, and Virat Kohli left for a duck. It was Rohit Sharma on one side and Shreyas Iyer on the other side who rescued India from a possible fumble. However, Rohit Sharma threw away his wicket to a pity ball from Mitchell Starc. A 135 kmph ball, targeting Rohit's hip, came from Starc. Rohit attempted a pull shot, hoping to hit a six. However, the ball flew flat and Josh Hazlewood took an easy catch at the fine leg. Even Rohit Sharma stood there, stunned at his mistake. Mitchell Starc who had a normal fist in the air, giggled the moment he got his teammates running to him. Rohit Sharma departed, scoring 73 runs off 97 balls, making the base of India's score. Well, the Adelaide crowd, which is mostly dominated by the Indians today, stood on their feet and clapped while Rohit Sharma walked out. Before Ro, the crowd did the same for Kohli, despite him walking out after a 4-ball duck. Shreyas attempted to loft a tossed-up leg-break from Adam Zampa but got a thick inside edge that crashed into the wickets. Notably, the BCCI dressing room took an odd step of sending Axar Patel ahead of KL Rahul. It was Axar who came in after RO was dismissed—maybe because of the head coach Gambhir's obsession with the left-right combination. However, after Iyer left, scoring his 23rd ODI half-century, KL Rahul came in but didn't stay long. KL Rahul’s aggressive intent backfired against Adam Zampa. After previously charging down the track, he expected another fuller delivery, but Zampa cleverly shortened his length. The flatter, stump-to-stump ball skidded through, catching Rahul off guard. Despite trying to pull with quick hands, he was completely beaten as the delivery sneaked under his bat and crashed into the stumps — a perfect flipper from Zampa that left the Indian batter stunned. Currently, India is 5 down for 180. Axar Patel is partnering with Washington Sundar.
