Sri Lanka is all set to host the Indian and South African women's cricket teams for a tri-series in April. The One Day International (ODI) series was not originally part of the Women's Future Tour Programme (FTP) but has now been scheduled. The tri-series will kick off on April 27th with the hosts, Sri Lanka, taking on India in the opening match. Each team will play the other two teams twice, resulting in a total of six group-stage matches. The top two teams from this round-robin format will advance to the final, which is scheduled for May 11th. All the matches will be held at the R. Premadasa International Cricket Stadium in Colombo and will be played as day games. Sri Lankan women's team is currently in New Zealand, where they are participating in three ODIs and three T20Is. Their tour of New Zealand concludes on March 18th. For South Africa, this tri-series marks their return to international cricket since December last year. Their last international assignment was in December 2024, when they faced England in all three formats of the game. The series against England came shortly after South Africa's heartbreaking defeat in the final of the T20 World Cup, where they finished as runners-up. However, before that game, India went down to Sri Lanka in the final of the Asia Cup. Last year, India also hosted South Africa in all three formats and managed to dominate them. India had a clean sweep in the ODI series and won the lone Test match, while the T20I series ended in a 1-1 draw. Currently, all the Indian players are busy with the Women's Premier League (WPL). Several South African stars, including Laura Wolvaardt and Marizanne Kapp, are also a part of the tournament. Notably, Sri Lankan captain Chamari Athapaththu was part of the UP Warriorz squad but did not get an opportunity to feature in the playing eleven. She had to leave the league midway to lead Sri Lanka in their ongoing New Zealand tour.
