The first Test between South Africa and Sri Lanka is racing at Kingsmead, Durban. Sri Lanka bowled South Africa out for a paltry 191 runs after winning the toss and electing to bowl. Sri Lanka's batting was even more disastrous. They were bowled out for just 43 runs in 83 balls. It is the second-lowest number of balls played in an innings in Test history and the lowest since 1924. Only two of the Sri Lankan batters could reach double figures, and five were dismissed for ducks. The hero of South Africa, Marco Jansen, took seven wickets for just 13 runs in 6.5 overs. Even though it is a challenging pitch to bat on, 191 for South Africa now looks like an difficult target to achieve for Sri Lanka. Sri Lanka now has a batting performance that is into the history books, following their 83-ball innings, which is the shortest since 1924 when England bowled South Africa out just for 75 balls at Edgbaston. If they can bat long in the second innings, South Africa can cause great pressure on Sri Lanka similar to how India did on Australia the previous week in Perth. India had been bowled out for 150 in their first innings but they turned the things around by bowling Australia out for just 104. Then, India batted really well in the second innings, with Yashasvi Jaiswal and Virat Kohli both scoring centuries. They declared at 487/6, setting a huge target of 534 runs for Australia, who lost by 295 runs.
