Sri Lanka is currently touring Pakistan for a tri-series involving Zimbabwe; however, a suicide bomb attack near the Islamabad High court has turned the entire scenario hostile. According to reports, several players have already retreated. The tri-series started on November 11, the very day when the suicide bomb blast happened. Rawalpindi will be hosting the first three matches of the series and the second ODI was scheduled on Thursday, November 13. However, the current situation of the country has made the match uncertain. According to AFP, at least 8 Sri Lankan players have already left the country. A Sri Lanka Cricket source informed AFP that a substitute player might be sent if the match happens. The source said, "The second ODI against Pakistan tomorrow is in doubt, but substitute players will be sent to continue the tri-nation series." The visitors are in Pakistan for a three-match ODI series in Rawalpindi, with the first match already played and two more scheduled on November 13 and 15. Pakistan Cricket Board Chief Mohsin Naqvi, also serving as Federal Minister for Interior, had earlier approached the Sri Lankan players, assuring them of foolproof safety. Despite his efforts, the recent Islamabad attack highlighted persistent security risks. Sources confirmed that security has now been intensified, with Pakistan Army and paramilitary rangers deployed to safeguard players and officials. The 2009 Gaddafi Stadium incident, where the TTP targeted the Sri Lankan team bus, left Pakistan’s cricketing image tarnished, causing several teams to avoid touring. The authorities are keen to prevent history from repeating amid heightened regional tensions.
