Sri Lanka is gearing up for a white-ball series against Zimbabwe, comprising two ODIs and three T20Is, with the ODI series set to begin on Friday, August 29. After announcing the ODI squad for the series, Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) have now announced their 17-member squad for the T20I series against Zimbabwe. Charith Asalanka will yet again lead the team, while the team also features notable names and a few new faces. One highlight from this squad was the omission of their star all-rounder Wanindu Hasaranga. Earlier, he was ignored from the ODI squad despite his incredible performances in recent times, and now he has been left out of the T20I squad. His last appearance came in January this year during Sri Lanka's tour of New Zealand. While Asalanka will continue to lead the squad, the team gets strengthened with the addition of their premier batters like Kushal Mendis, Pathum Nissanka, and Kusal Perera. On the all-rounders front, the squad features Dasun Shanaka and spin bowling all-rounders, including Kamindu Mendis and Dunith Wellalage. Matheesha Pathirana, Nuwana Thushara and Maheesh Theekshana have retained their places. The senior pacer Dushmantha Chameera will mark his return to the squad after a year's absence. The three-match T20I series between Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe will kick off in September and run till the 9th of September. This series will also serve as preparation for Sri Lanka ahead of the Asia Cup 2025, which is slated to begin on September 9. All three matches will be played in the iconic Harare Sports Club in Harare. Sri Lanka is placed in group B of the Asia Cup along with Bangladesh, Afghanistan and Hong Kong. They will play their first match against their arch-rivals, Bangladesh, on September 13.
