Sri Lanka and Bangladesh are currently engaged in a white ball series that comprises three ODIs and three T20Is. The One-day International leg has almost come to an end with the three-match series currently levelled at 1-1, the T20I leg will be played after the conclusion of the ODIs. Sri Lanka has announced their T20I squad for the Bangladesh squad. In a surprising move, Sri Lanka has added their former white-ball skipper Dasun Shanaka to their T20I squad that will be facing the Bangladesh team, starting from July 10. His last appearance in international cricket came in July 2024. Apart from Shanaka, Chamika Karunaratne has also made his return to the team. His latest is coming in the ILT20 in February this year. Karunaratne, who last played for Sri Lanka in November 2023, is also set to return. While a few of the players are set to return but other big names like Bhanuka Rajapaksa, Chamindu Wickramasinghe and Asitha Fernando have been sidelined for this series. The other notable inclusion in the squad is Eshan Malinga, who has been featured in just 6 ODI matches for the Sri Lankan team and might get his T20I debut against Bangladesh. Pathum Nissanka, Kusal Mendis, Kusal Perera, Avishka Fernando, Kamindu, Dinesh Chandimal and Asalanka will be there to provide much-needed stability at the top and middle order, while Shanaka, Karunaratne, Wellalage and Hasaranga are all capable with the bat down the order. On the bowling front, Matheesha Pathirana, Nuwan Thushara and Binura Fernando, and Eshan Malinga will take care of the pace bowling duties, while Jeffrey Vandersay, Maheesh Theekshana and Hasaranga and Dunith Wellalage will be available for the spin-bowling options.
