After starting their season with an absolute bang, scoring a mammoth 286 runs in their first match against the Rajasthan Royals and handing them quite a big defeat, the Sunrisers Hyderabad have only gone downhill. Since their first win, they have gone on to face 4 back-to-back losses and each one of them has been a one-sided affair. Their latest defeat came in their home ground against the Gujarat Titans on Sunday who made the contest look quite easy for themselves. Match Summary After winning the toss, GT skipper Shubman Gill decided to bowl first against the explosive top order of SRH. His decision turned out to be on point as the home side was restricted to a score of just 152/8 after the 20 overs of play with Md. Siraj being the pick of the bowlers- picking up 4 wickets and giving away just 17 runs. SRH did pick up a couple of early wickets but GT went on to chase the target in a dominating fashion with 20 balls to spare. Skipper Gill along with W. Sundar and S. Rutherford made key contributions of 61* 49 and 35* respectively. They've lost 3 out of 4 matches while batting first and in all of these matches the target was chased by the opponent within 17 overs. The one defeat while chasing was also nothing short of humiliating as they lost it by 80 runs. Their batters who wrecked havoc in the last IPL and even in the first match this year- scoring 250+ for fun, are now struggling to even get a competitive total. Their over-aggressiveness has led to their massive downfall. After a blistering ton in the very first match, Ishan Kishan has then went on to score a total of 21 runs in the next four matches which has been a major concern for the team. Heinrich Klaasen, their magnificient middle order batter hasn't got going in the tournament yet, managing a highest score of just 34. Abhishek Sharma has looked completely out of place with not a single good knock while his opening partner Travis Head who played two good knocks at the beginning of the tournament, has now failed thrice in consecutive games. SRH's batting is heavily dependent on their top order but they just seem to have lost their magic in the last 10 days or so. The likes of Head, Abhishek, Kishan and Klaasen need to step up again in order to win big matches for their team. All of them have been international players and thus can't throw away their wickets in tricky situations in the name of intent and power hitting. Sensing tough conditions, it is necessary to take a step back and respect the balls and bowlers for a while. Ignoring the condition and blind slogging can lead you to situations similar to that of SRH right now. Atleast one of the top 3 needs to play a big knock and stay at the pitch for a longer duration of time. It's important for the team management to realise this and convey the message. SRH are currently the last placed team on the points table and if they don't pull up their socks in time, things will just keep getting worse for them going ahead in this big tournament. The IPL moves fast if things aren't falling in the right place for you and thus SRH would be looking to make a strong comeback.
