A batting spectacle saw Sunrisers Hyderabad thrash Delhi Capitals by a comprehensive 47 runs in Match 31 of the Indian Premier League 2026 held at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium. Batting first, SRH recorded a monumental 242/2 from their 20 overs largely thanks to a thunderous century from Abhishek Sharma. DC managed to reply by putting in a fighting effort but fell short by a significant margin as they finished on 195/9. Abhishek Sharma's Brilliant Century Steers SRH to Dominance Sunrisers Hyderabad enjoyed a fiery start at the hands of young opener Abhishek Sharma. The left-handed batter hammered an astonishing unbeaten 135 off 68 balls, which was studded with 10 fours and as many sixes. Although DC got a couple of chances to get rid of Abhishek early in the innings, but they failed to capitalize on it. Sharma looked in commanding form right from the word go, attacking both pace and spin with disdain. The explosive batter was supported brilliantly by Travis Head (37 off 26) and Ishan Kishan (25 off 13). Heinrich Klaasen provided a late flourish with an unbeaten 37 off 13 balls to help SRH sail past the 240 mark. The bowling side did not look up to the mark, as the bowlers were not able to contain the run-flow and the team was forced to use varied strategies. Axar Patel managed to pick a wicket, but the other bowlers could not prevent SRH from piling up a colossal score. Some early wickets left the batting side under a lot of pressure, but KL Rahul and Nitish Rana tried to absorb the pressure and rebuild the innings. The latter was the dominant partner and scored a brisk 57 from 30 balls, with Rahul chipping in 37 runs. While Sameer Rizvi contributed with 41 runs and Tristan Stubbs with 27 runs, the required run rate grew higher and higher. SRH bowlers took wickets at regular intervals to prevent Delhi Capitals from going into overdrive. Eshan Malinga accounted for four major wickets, shattering Delhi Capitals' middle order, whereas Harsh Dubey picked up 3 wickets to not allow any late fightback. Although some partnerships did appear, they never posed a threat to the target, and DC ended up at 195/9 from 20 overs. Abhishek Sharma, who smashed a spectacular inning which laid the foundation for a commanding win for SRH, was rightfully awarded the Player of the match.
