Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) accused Hyderabad Cricket Association (HCA) president Jagan Mohan Rao of blackmail, threat, and intimidation of its employees at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium. The Chennai-based Sun Group-owned team says that Rao locked up the corporate boxes a few hours prior to their game against Lucknow Super Giants on March 27. SRH has now requested a meeting with HCA to clear the persisting ticket and pass related issues. A recent official statement sent by SRH to HCA Apex Council members includes: "It is the HCA President Mr. Jagan Mohan Rao who is resorting to threats, coercion and blackmail. Even before the IPL started, Rao threatened our staff with coercion, who in return out of fear wrote an email to him, placing on record the threat he made." The statement further read: "This is in reference to your email dated 29th March 2025. Firstly, we wish to place on record that we have no grievances against HCA's Secretary, CEO, Treasurer or other office bearers of HCA. In fact, we would like to thank them for their cooperation. Without waiting for a resolution, the HCA president Mr. Jagan Mohan Rao locked the F3 box just few hours before the start of the game, knowing very well that this box was given to the owner of Lucknow SuperGiants, Mr. Goenka. This was done just to blackmail us and put coercive pressure on us to give additional 20 complimentary tickets before the game." Although they have appreciated other HCA officials, such as the secretary and CEO, for their cooperation, they have charged Rao with making unjustified demands. As per SRH, Rao demanded 10% of the tickets (3,900 for each match) for himself, besides the 3,900 tickets HCA already receives gratis. The team declined, pointing out that this would deprive fans of tickets and raise questions about equitable ticket sales. SRH also charged Rao with claiming credit for stadium upgrades that were carried out by the franchise. They accused Sun Group of spending heavily on painting the stadium, repairing toilets, upgrading corporate suites, and installing new air conditioning units but Rao claiming in the media that he had done the upgrades. The HCA has yet to answer SRH's appeal for a meeting.
