Rishabh Pant has cut a sorry figure in IPL 2025 thus far. His performances have hardly been enough to justify the astronomical price of ₹27 crore he carries. More concerning is his evident struggle against spin. Things will most probably get worse for him on Tuesday, when he faces against his former teammates Axar Patel and Kuldeep Yadav when LSG comes to town with DC at Lucknow's Ekana Stadium. The numbers with regards to Pant's batting against spin for the past year have been unbelievable. Ever since the start of 2024, he has got out to spinners eight times. Off the spinners, his runs total only 32 off 45 balls at a strike rate of 71.11, and to make things worse, half of those balls were dot balls. Pant was dismissed for zero runs after facing only six balls against DC in his IPL 2025 opener, again at the hands of Kuldeep Yadav. Pant has been dismissed by spinners two times out of seven innings since. Axar Patel and Kuldeep Yadav have dismissed him three times in earlier IPL seasons. Against the duo, Pant has had only 11 singles, 1 double, 0 fours, and 2 sixes. His strike rate against them has been a dismal 5.35, while his average stands at just 8.33. The only fifty he scored so far was against CSK, but even that went for a DNF. So far, Pant has scored a paltry 106 runs in eight innings with an average of 15.14 and a strike rate of 98.14 and certainly not what was expected from him this season. Other LSG batters are coming out with glorious performances and Pant still continues to find it hard to get out of a slump. And the DC can take shots at him yet again due to his poor record against spin. Axar and Kuldeep would certainly target their former captain for some easy dismissals.
