Temba Bavuma, the South Africa captain, has completely recovered from an elbow injury and is good to go to lead his team into the two-Test series against Sri Lanka. He suffered the injury on October 4 when he dived during an ODI against Ireland in Abu Dhabi. He thus missed the Lions' first two first-class matches and will not feature in the third game against Western Province at the Wanderers either as South Africa starts its two-day camp in Pretoria, starting Thursday. The side will leave for Durban on Saturday, where the first Test will begin next Wednesday. Kagiso Rabada, who did not play in the recently concluded T20I series against India, has also been added. Marco Jansen and Gerald Coetzee, who came to the international cricket during the India series after their conditioning breaks, have been included in the side. Both Jansen and Coetzee last played Test matches earlier this year against India in January and December. Some players from South Africa's last home series are absent, such as retired Dean Elgar and injured duo Lungi Ngidi and Nandre Burger. Changes behind the selection include leaving out Keegan Petersen and Zubayr Hamza while including Ryan Rickelton, Dane Paterson, and Senuran Muthusamy, making the 14-player set that is one player less than usual.
