Sophie Devine will make her comeback to international cricket in the upcoming T20I series against Australia. New Zealand Cricket has announced the squad for the series, which will conclude their home summer for the 2024/25 season. After taking a well-being break, Devine is set to rejoin the squad, though she will not be resuming her captaincy duties. Suzie Bates will continue to lead the side. During her break, Devine missed the final leg of the Super Smash, the Women's Premier League (WPL), and the home series against Sri Lanka. Her absence was a setback for Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in WPL 2025, as she was one of five players ruled out before the season. RCB also lost Sophie Molineux, Kate Cross, Asha Shobana, and Shreyanka Patil, which impacted their campaign as they failed to qualify for the knockouts. Speaking about her return, Devine said that she is looking forward to joining the squad. "It's nice to have had some time to reset and refocus, and I'm really looking forward to getting back out there with the girls," she said. Amelia Kerr returns to international cricket Alongside Devine, Amelia Kerr will also return to the squad for the Australia series. The all-rounder had missed the home series against Sri Lanka due to WPL 2025, where she won the Purple Cap and helped Mumbai Indians clinch their second WPL title. She has recovered from a grade-two hamstring injury sustained in December and is set to join the squad. In the recent Sri Lanka series, New Zealand was forced to make seven changes due to injuries and player unavailability. Izzy Gaze and Lauren Down remain sidelined as they continue their recovery. Meanwhile, Bella James returns to the squad and is expected to open the batting alongside her Otago teammate and captain, Suzie Bates. With Tahuhu’s return, left-arm pacer Bree Illing will miss out despite her impressive performance against Sri Lanka, where she dismissed Chamari Athapaththu twice. Emma McLeod, Izzy Sharp, and Flora Devonshire will also make way as the squad welcomes back senior players. The three-match T20I series will be played from March 21 to 26.
