Despite the Gujarat Giants’ starting their run in the 2025 Women's Premier League with a six-wicket defeat against the Royals Challengers Bengaluru, Ashleigh Gardner, the captain, created a unique record on Friday by dismissing RCB skipper Smriti Mandhana nine times in the Women's T20s, surpassing Nat Sciver-Brunt’s record of eight. Gardner trapped Mandhana LBW during RCB’s chase of 202 at Kotambi Stadium, also dismissing Danni Wyatt-Hodge. She has now dismissed the Indian vice-captain 15 times overall. Asked if she’d take Gardner out for dinner, Mandhana quipped, "I think I have to take her for runs, I think it is time now (laughs).” Smriti Mandhana was thrilled after RCB pulled off the highest successful run chase in WPL history. Ellyse Perry’s 56 set the stage before Richa Ghosh’s explosive 64* off 27 sealed the win. Kanika Ahuja chipped in with an unbeaten 30. Speaking about the team's performance, captain Smriti said, “I am really happy we were on the winning side. The way Richa and Pez (Perry) batted was amazing. We lost the top three wicket-takers of last year, but luckily we had good options.” Read also: Injury Scars in RCB Camp? Key Player Ruled Out of WPL 2025 RCB’s Record-Breaking Chase Stuns Gujarat Giants Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) kicked off their WPL campaign in style, completing the highest successful run-chase in the tournament’s history. On February 14, they chased down 202 to beat Gujarat Giants (GG) by six wickets at Kotambi Stadium, with Richa Ghosh’s blistering 64* off 27 sealing the win with nine balls to spare. RCB broke Mumbai Indians’ previous record, becoming only the second team to chase 200+ in Women’s T20s after West Indies’ 213-run chase against Australia in 2023. Priya Mishra dropped Richa on zero, a costly mistake as the batter made the Giants pay. Ellyse Perry, overcoming injury concerns, played a fluent 57-run knock, stitching an 86-run stand with Raghvi Bist. Needing 92 off 46, Richa and Kanika Ahuja (30* off 13) unleashed an onslaught, with Richa’s six off Deandra Dottin sealing victory. For the Giants, Ash Gardner’s unbeaten 79 and two early wickets weren’t enough. Beth Mooney’s 56 and Dottin’s 25 powered them to 201/5, but RCB’s chase proved too strong. RCB next faces Meg Lanning’s Delhi Capitals on February 17 in Vadodara.
